Roots & Wings is a charter school in Lama, NM where students learn through thematic units (or Expeditions). This fall we are studying the human body with a focus on digestion and how food affects the body. As part of our semester theme, our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will be training to compete in the Third Annual Taos Turkey Trot 5K. We will be practicing weekly and eating the right foods to help us complete this race and we encourage all local students to come compete with us.
There are a few different ways to support us in our endeavor:
– Walk or Run with us
– Be a spectator and cheer us on
– Visit our booth after the race at the Taos Youth & Family Center. We’ll be selling snacks made from our healthy snack recipe book. Let us show you what we’ve been doing to train for the Turkey Trot.
– Like us on Facebook
We look forward to seeing you!
Come on all you Turkeys! Before your annual dose of Thanksgiving tryptophan this year: come out and TROT!!
Join your friends and family and kick off the holiday with the 3rd annual Taos Turkey Trot 5K Road Race and Fun Run/Walk! Starting at the Taos Youth & Family Center, Saturday, November 23, 2013 – 9:00 am start time!
What is the Taos Turkey Trot? The Taos Turkey Trot is a 5k family-friendly community fun-run that encourages kids in Taos, and people of ALL ages to have a fun, healthy lifestyle. This is a timed race for all ages and athletes of all abilities.
This year, all proceeds will benefit “Get Fit Taos Kids” and the Taos Sports Alliance. The Get Fit Taos Kids Project began in 2010 as a collaborative effort between Holy Cross Hospital, Taos Clinic for Children & Youth and Aurafitness. The intention of “Get Fit Taos Kids” is to work with youth ages of approximately 8 – 14 years who are overweight and at risk for developing co-occurring diseases such as diabetes. The Taos Sports Alliance serves the Northern New Mexico community by programming, promoting and operating sports and recreation events benefiting youth participation by collaborating volunteers, private companies and municipal resources to help students participate in organized sports and recreational activities as a way toward a healthy lifestyle.
Every participating runner/walker will have a chance to win prizes that will be raffled off during the awards ceremony. We will choose the top three overall Male and overall Female winners along with an award for Best Costume. Many, many thanks to our friends and family in Taos…last year participation in the Turkey Trot more than DOUBLED and we expect to see the same this year! Come out and TROT!
